MEMORIAL DAY UPDATE

Events in Hopewell Township, Hopewell Borough and Pennington

   — The Hopewell Valley Veterans Association (HVVA) is holding its annual Memorial Day ceremony on May 29 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Alliger Park. The event will include remarks by keynote speaker, Gen. Michael Cunniff of the NJ Air National Guard. The ceremony also will include remarks by local veterans, a fly-over with T-28 Trojan warbirds, a dove release, and an unveiling of memorial bricks. Music will be provided by the St. Ann’s of Hampton Pipe Band. Lunch will follow the ceremony. Check Comcast channel 95 or Verizon 30 if there is inclement weather. Alliger Park is located at 203 Washington Crossing-Pennington Road (Route 546), adjacent to the Hopewell Township Public Works Building. The ceremony is free and open to all community members.    — Hopewell Borough’s annual Memorial Day Parade will be held on May 30 at 1 p.m. The parade will begin at Windsor Way and go east on Broad Street to Princeton Avenue, ending at the Hopewell Elementary School. The Hopewell Fire Department and Emergency Medical Unit will host the post parade ceremony at the school again this year. Veterans or active members of the military who would like to participate in the parade are asked to call the HFD at 466-0060, ext. 33.
   The Hopewell Borough Recreation Committee announces its annual Bike Brigade, Concert and Community Picnic, which will take place on May 30, Bike Brigade participants should bring decorated bicycles to Taylor Terrace at 12:30 p.m. to receive placement in the Memorial Day Parade lineup. The brigade will ride down the parade route with the rest of the procession, which begins at 1 p.m.
   The Hopewell Recreation Committee will officially “kick-off” summer at the Post-Parade Picnic at Hopewell Park. This event begins at 4 p.m. A free concert will be performed by the Jim Rowland Band. Members of the community should bring their own picnics.
   — The Hopewell Fire Department and Emergency Medical Unit is sponsoring an Adopt-A-Flag program. Residents can purchase an American flag through the department (for you, your family or in memory of a loved one). The flags are used to line Broad Street in Hopewell Borough from Memorial Day through Labor Day. If interested, send a check for $30 to the Hopewell Fire Department, 4-6 Columbia Ave, Hopewell, 08525 with Adopt A Flag in the memo section. Questions Call the department at 466-0060, ext. 33.
   — The Pennington Parks and Recreation Commission is planning this year’s Memorial Day Parade, scheduled for May 31 at 11 a.m. Participation in the parade is free and open to all groups and organizations throughout the Valley. Organizers welcome floats, antique cars and live music.
