Law enforcement officers will be cracking down on unbuckled motorists and their passengers May 24 to June 6 as part of the annual nationwide “Click-It or Ticket” campaign. There will be highvisibility law enforcement seat belt checkpoints and saturation patrols.
Last year, the seat belt usage rate in New Jersey rose for the 13th consecutive year, to 92.67 percent, according to the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, although the goal is 100 percent compliance.
During the 2009 campaign, officers issued over 41,000 seat belt citations, over 6,000 speeding summonses and over 800 drunken-driving arrests.
North Brunswick Township received a $4,000 grant for the designated enforcement period.
