A Community Golf Outing and Networking Reception to benefit the Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital will be held on June 29 at Forsgate Country Club, Monroe. Tournament registration, breakfast and driving range access will take place 7-8 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m., a networking reception 1-1:45 p.m., and lunch and awards at 1:45 p.m. The format is a team scramble. Prizes will be awarded for first through fourth place. Contests include closest to the pin and longest drive. A hole-in-one prize will be offered by the Malouf Auto Group. Brookdale Community College softball coach Bo Scannapieco recently picked up the 750th win of his Hall of Fame career when his Jersey Blues defeated Cumberland, 12-3.
In his 24 years at BCC, Scannapieco has captured two Junior College Division III national championships (2002, 2005). His teams have won 14 Region XIX titles and 13 Garden State Athletic Conference crowns.
This year’s team is 31-6 and ranked No. 3 in the country.
The annual Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey Golf Outing to benefit New Jersey horsemen will take place July 12 at Gambler Ridge Golf Course in Cream Ridge. Money raised through the outing supports the New Jersey Standardbred Horsemen’s Benevolent Fund.

Craig Thomas, a standout lead guard at Cardinal McCarrick High School, South Amboy, has made his decision to continue his academic and athletic careers at Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Thomas had an outstanding career at Cardinal McCarrick. Referred to as “the general,” he was a key factor in helping the Eagles achieve great success the past two years. As a junior he averaged 5.1 points, 5.5 assists, and 2.7 steals per game for the 20-7 Eagles, the first team in Greater Middlesex Conference history to win all three division titles.
As a senior, his all-around play was instrumental in leading McCarrick to a 17-11 record and a second straight berth in the NJSIAA South Parochial finals as he averaged 7.1 points, 5.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.1 steals per game.
Thomas carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average and has been on the principal’s list every marking period. He will enter Wilkes this coming fall as a computer science major.
