The Robbinsville High School girls track team won the Central Jersey Group I championships (88 points) while competing at Hillsborough this past Friday and Saturday.
“This is the girls spring track and field team’s second sectional championship (2008 also),” Coach Mike Walker noted.
The top six finishers in each event scored points for their team and will advance on to the overall Group I championships this weekend. The top six finishers in that meet will make The Meet of Champions.
Noel Jancewicz won the 100 in a time of 12.93. Jancewicz added a second in the high jump (5’ 4”) and a third in the 400 (1:01.83).
“Noel Jancewicz grabbed a surprising victory in the 100 meter dash,” Walker said. “It is surprising only because it is only the third meet that she ran the 100 meter race. Noel is one of the best high jumpers in the state, but she is showing her versatility by winning the 100.”
Megan Flynn won the 1600 (5:19.38) and 3200 (11:38.06). Flynn also placed second in the 800 (2:26.52).
“Megan Flynn captured her ninth and tenth sectional titles in her career, but the 1600 and 3200 were her first spring sectional titles since her freshman year,” Walker said. “Flynn had the senior prom on Friday night, so her accomplishments are all the more impressive considering the late night in between the days of competition. It is good to see her competing at a high level after seasons of injuries.”
Meagan Lesniak placed third in the 3200 (11:51.39) and fourth in the 1600 (5:32.62).
Alicia Norato was fourth in the javelin (89’ 3”). Allyson Guieb placed fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:10.28). Lisa Leszcynski placed third in the 800 (2:28.24). Juliann Swift placed fifth in the 3200 (12:32.48). Amanda Douglass was fifth in the long jump (15’ 6.25”). Taylor Harmon was fourth (5’) in the high jump.
Robbinsville’s 4×400 team of Noel Jancewicz, Allyson Guieb, Amanda Douglas, Megan Flynn, NickiAnn Fransisco Alicia Norato, Reilly Sheehan and Courtney Levering placed third (4:15.69). Teams are allowed to list extra runners and use different combinations for qualifying rounds and the finals.

Julian Jiggetts just missed out in advancing in the 400, placing seventh (52.23). Craig Hunter was seventh in the high jump (5’ 10”). It was a particularly hard break for Hunter, who cleared the same height as four athletes that advanced.

    BOYS TENNIS
The Robbinsville High School boys tennis team staged a pair of 3-2 upsets and was scheduled to play for the Central Jersey Group I championship this past Tuesday against South River.
In truth, this is something that has happened a few times locally among the smaller Colonial Valley Conference teams. The CVC is such a powerful conference for tennis that its unlikely a GrouP I team will ever face tougher opponents in the states than it did during the regular season.
Robbinsville, seeded fifth, edged fourth-seeded Bound Brook, 3-2, on Tuesday, May 18.
Rami Bekhiet defeated Juan Suarez, 6-1, 6-2, at first singles. Sammer Bekhiet defeated Chris Brenes, 6-2, 6-0, at second singles. Robbinsville’s third point came when the second doubles team of Steve Hodul and Jason Dilts won 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.
