Uncontested local primary elections on June 8 didn’t bring out many voters, but resulted in at least one municipality having a contest in the November general election.
While no Democrats officially filed to run in the Allentown, Millstone and Upper Freehold primaries, no Republicans officially filed to run in the Roosevelt primary election.
However, resident Ronald Taft received enough votes on the Democratic ticket in Upper Freehold to seek election on the ballot in November. In Allentown, Wayne Smith and Robert W. Johnson received enough votes on the Democratic ticket to run in the general election.
Upper Freehold Republicans supported Stanley Moslowski and LoriSue H. Mount to run for re-election to threeyear terms on the Township Committee with 378 and 349 votes, respectively. Municipal Clerk Dana Tyler confirmed that Taft received enough write-ins to run in the general election. Marc Covitz and Michael Franken each received one write-in vote on the Democratic ticket, not enough to qualify for consideration in the general election. Taft received four write-in votes and said he would seek election.
In Allentown, Audrey R. Mount and Jean P. Hunter won the Republican Party’s nod to seek election to the two open three-year seats on the Borough Council. Hunter was the top vote-getter with 67. Mount garnered 65 votes. Republican Dan Zorovich earned the goahead to run for the remaining year of an unexpired seat with 69 votes.
While no Democrats filed for the primary in Allentown, Wayne Smith received four write-in votes and Robert W. Johnson received three write-in votes. Donald Wood also received one write-in vote, not enough for consideration as a candidate. Johnson said he would run in November. Smith had not made a decision before press time.
In Millstone, Bob Kinsey won Republican support to seek re-election to a three-year term on the Township Committee with 328 votes. Although there were several write-in votes, it did not appear at press time that any individual received enough votes to run on the Democratic ticket in November.
In Roosevelt, Democrats Peggy Malkin and Ralph Warnick earned the opportunity to seek election to threeyear terms on the Borough Council. Warnick, a newcomer, received 61 votes; Malkin, an incumbent, garnered 54 votes.
All of the primary winners will have their names officially placed on the ballot for the Nov. 2 general election.
