Pioneer Futures, which finished third in the regular season, saved its best for the playoffs as it took an 8-1 win over Dr. Mark McDonough to win the HVBSA Majors Softball playoff title.
Jess Cianfrocca had a monster game, going 3-for-3 with a double and six RBI, while Marley Citrone was also 3-for-3 and Sofia Stepanoff, Elyse Nardozza, Samantha Braswell and Kaela Moore each had key hits. Nardozza struck out seven during her work on the mound and Stepanoff fanned six. Katie Vannozzi tug two runners out on the bases, while Kayley Sked, Celia Butrym, Lauren Cox and Bridget Anzano were all tough defensively. The champs were coached by Chris Butrym and Keith Vannozzi.
For McDonough, the regular-season champ, Emily Carom, Emily Szafranski and Cayleigh Keenan (RBI) each had hits. Szafranski fanned five from the circle while Keenan whiffed two. Catcher JJ Lapointe nailed two runners at home on throws from Carom and Lizzy Bararevech. Paige Baxter, Jennifer Miller, Laila Shehab, Leah Albarran, Hailey Jantorno and Kayla Harrison all fielded well.
