AMC to combine dining with first-run movies

EDISON — The term “dinner and a movie” will soon take on a whole new meaning locally.

The AMC Loews Menlo Park 12-movie theater complex is being converted to eight Fork & Screen auditoriums and four Cinema Suites auditoriums, according to a recent announcement from Menlo Park Mall owner Simon Property Group and AMC Entertainment.

The Fork & Screen venues will offer patrons in-theater dining, combined with the current movies and other events presented in the big-screen environment, according to a press release from Simon Property Group. The menu, which will be handed to guests as they are seated for the movie, will feature appetizers, gourmet burgers, wraps, quesadillas and desserts. Traditional theater concessions will also be available.

Additionally, there will be a bar area that patrons can visit. Beer, wine and cocktails can also be ordered fromthe auditoriumand delivered by a server. Guests have to be 18 years old, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian who is 21 years or older.

The Cinema Suites theaters will feature, for guests age 21 and over, reserved seating and luxury recliners. The press release describes the Cinema Suites venues as a “premium, upscale in-theater dining and entertainment experience” that also includes swivel tables and eight-foot row spacing.

The theater’s conversion is hoped to be completed during the fourth quarter of this year, according to Simon Property Group.

Though the theater will not be open during construction, it will remain open for business until work begins on the conversion, as scheduled for later this year.

“We are thrilled to be one of the first locations in the country to host AMC’s Fork & Screen and Cinema Suites concepts,” said Suzy Lichter, area director of marketing for Simon Property Group.
