COLTS NECK — As a great way to wrap up their year-long mission to assist Habitat for Humanity, members of the Colts Neck High School chapter of Habitat for Humanity recently presented a check for $6,500 to their cause.
On June 14, members of the high school’s chapter presented the check to representatives of the Western Monmouth Chapter of Habitat for Humanity at Federici’s restaurant, Freehold.
The club’s executive board worked hard all year to raise the money, board member Joan Grubb said.
The board includes students Alex Appolania, Jordan Back, Alexandra Defeo, Joan Grubb, Malyssa Suarez, Sarah Thompson and Alec Viehman.
Most of the executive board members will say their goodbyes to the Colts Neck chapter as they graduate from high school this week.
Colts Neck’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity organized numerous events and fundraisers to raise money that will help pay for the construction of affordable homes and spread awareness of the organization’s mission.
According to its Internet website, Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. Habitat builds with people in need regardless of race or religion. The organization welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds. Habitat builds houses that are simple, decent, and affordable to low-income families around the world.
“We also have a large number of extremely dedicated seniors, especially Nick Reardon, who help build every Saturday that our club is asked to work,” Grubb said.
The house that the Habitat group has been working on this year is being built for a disabled veteran and his family. The project is something members of the club are proud to have been a part of.
Grubb thanked the group’s adviser, Laurie Musgrave, for all the time she has donated to the organization.
