Elizabeth Maher Muoio of Pennington is the new chairwoman of the Mercer County Democratic Committee.
Ms. Muoio, who lives on Voorhees Avenue, was chosen for the post at the committee’s June 16 reorganization meeting. She will serve a two-year term. As county chairwoman, she replaces Richard McClellan, of Hamilton.
”It is a true honor to take the helm of the Mercer County Democratic Committee,” Ms. Muoio said Tuesday.
”It is a party with a long proud history here in Mercer. We have a slate of incumbents and candidates at all levels of government who are fully committed to serving the best interests of Mercer County residents, and I look forward to helping them succeed in their mission,” Ms. Muoio added.
Ms. Muoio was a member of Pennington Borough Council from 1997 to 2001. She was a Mercer County freeholder from 2001 to 2008 and was president of the freeholder board for one year.
In 2008, she resigned from the freeholder board when County Executive Brian Hughes appointed her the county’s director of economic development and sustainability.
Ms. Muoio, 47, and her husband, Joseph, have three children — Nick, 17; Molly 15; and Jack, 8.
