The Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group’s Center for Healthy Aging at Monroe will hold the first of a series of free lectures and memory screenings for the public at 10 a.m. and again at 1 p.m., on July 31. Each lecture, which will be led by Dr. John Heath, a geriatrician and associate professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, will be followed by prescheduled screenings. The event will take place in Suite 104 at 18 Centre Drive, off Applegarth Road, Monroe Township.

Following each talk, Dr. Heath will be joined by trained clinicians to conduct memory screenings and interviews to discuss patient concerns. The lectures and screenings are free; however, screening appointments must be scheduled in advanced by calling 609-655-5178.

Dr. Lawrence S. Sykoff, of Freehold, head of Ranney School, Tinton Falls, was honored by the American Cancer Society (ACS), Jersey Shore Region, during an awards ceremony at the Manasquan River Country Club on July 12.

As the 2010 honorary chairman of the American Cancer Society’s 31st annual Jersey Shore Golf Classic, he was honored for his longstanding support and commitment to the organization’s fight against cancer. This year’s golf classic raised more than $200,000. As in years past, the money raised will be used to support cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient service programs in local communities.

During the evening, Sykoff was also recognized, on behalf of New Jersey Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for his longstanding community service and commitment to the ACS mission.

Business owners can train their employees for free at Brookdale Community College through a New Jersey Department of Labor Business and Industry Grant in partnership with the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA) and the New Jersey Community College Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development.

All New Jersey businesses are eligible to participate in this program. Training is free in the following basic skills areas: Word level I and II, Excel level I and II, Windows, Outlook, customer service, business writing, verbal communications, basic math, basic measurement, and English as a Second Language (ESL) I and II.

To receive free training, classes can be formed by 12 or more employees in any of the above basic skills areas. Classes can be held on-site at the business or at any one of Brookdale’s six campuses or higher education centers throughout Monmouth County. Dr. Joseph Cilea, Marlboro, and Dr. Anthony De Luca, Old Bridge, served as team chiropractors for the U.S. Army All-Shore Classic football game that was played at Matawan Regional High School on July 16. Both doctors were chosen because of their background in sports-related physical therapy.

As the team chiropractors, Cilea and De Luca worked with the teams’ athletic trainers and orthopedists to optimize physical performance and proactively manage any sports-related injuries.

Cilea opened his chiropractic center in 1997 in Marlboro. Now an integrated multidisciplinary center of care, Advanced Wellness provides a range of wellness services.

De Luca is a certified chiropractic sports physician, a personal fitness trainer and is certified in sports rehabilitation.

The Howell Chamber of Commerce will host its annual bowl-a-thon from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 4 at Howell Lanes, 1002 Route 9 south, Howell. Howell Chamber of Commerce businesses can have a lane with four bowlers for a $75 fee. For an additional $25, members can reserve a vendor table on the concourse level.
