Montgomery personnel praised by a visitor

Barbara Bohanan of Shrewsbury
In an age of economic troubles and selfishness, I found first hand, there is still good in people, and even better, perfect strangers.
My daughter plays softball for NJ Fury, which is a tournament team. Her team plays all over the state and out of state throughout the summer. We attended the Mavericks Father’s Day Melee on June 12 and 13 in Montgomery Park.
This organization, made up of moms and dads, ran this tournament like a “well oiled machine.” The fields were in excellent condition and were maintained with rakes, water, and fresh lines after each game. The concession stand was run smoothly and never had a wait for very long. I applaud these people.
I had the regretful experience of having mixed up an envelope which contained the high school coach’s gift money — which I was collecting from players — with a newspaper, which I accidentally disposed of in a trash bin. Even worse, I tossed it into a bin which was locked. On Saturday evening, after realizing that I no longer held this envelope of collected money, I realized that I had indeed thrown it into the trash and considered it a loss, which was anywhere from $30 to $50 dollars.
We returned the next day for the Sunday games, and I asked one of the tournament fathers, Bruce Gray, if this particular trash bin had been emptied. He told me that it had not, as the DPW had the only key and would be emptying it on Monday. He took my name and phone number and assured me that he would try to get my envelope back. He even went over to the DPW that day (Father’s Day – his day), and found that no one was there. I was truly amazed that anyone really cared and was willing to look into it further.
To my amazement, I received calls the following week from Sgt. Rock and Sgt. Lovering of the Montgomery Police Department informing me that they had found my money and would be making arrangements to send it to me. I can only imagine the mess that someone from DPW had to go through; after all, it was in a fully packed garbage can. I truly thank that person. The envelope contained $41. And I received it through certified mail.
This experience has restored my faith in humanity. I can’t imagine many people going to these lengths to find an envelope with a minimal amount of money and then actually returning it. I found these people to be honest, good natured and willing to help others, even complete strangers. I applaud all of those who helped out. Thank you! Thank you!
