Kumon Math and Reading Center of Morganville recently honored more than 15 students for their academic achievement and advanced study. The students received awards for mastering basic algebra and studying above their grade level.

Kiran Chahil, who owns Kumon of Morganville and also works as an instructor at the school, expressed her pride in recognizing the great strides the students have made toward their educational goals. She said the students are role models for their peers and fellow Kumon students.

During the event, New Jersey-Pennsylvania branch leader Walter Bass spoke about the importance of advanced study and how the study skills children develop at Kumon will help them in school, on tests and in life.

Oluseun Sowemimo, M.D. (Dr. Seun), of Prime Surgicare, has announced he is performing the VNUS Closure procedure, a minimally invasive, office-based treatment to eliminate painful and unsightly varicose veins. The FDA-approved procedure uses radiofrequency heat placed directly into the wall of the saphenous vein in the thigh. Paula Garrett, president of The Tradeshow Connector Inc., Manalapan, has self-published a cookbook called “Minute to Miracle Recipes.” According to Garrett, in dealing with many clients throughout the United States, she realized that in this economic environment, men and woman who work full-time had a need for affordable, easy and healthy recipes and decided to create the book.

Garrett has won “The Hosgood Garlic Contest” and “The Manichewitz Memory Of the Week” award. Although her role in corporate America is helping companies plan trade shows, she said she will continue to promote her new creation.

Nonna’s Citi Cucina, formerly known as Nonna’s Italian Feast, has reopened at 190 Route 9, Marlboro. According to coowners Joe Mosco and Rob Kash, Citi Cucina not only offers diners an entirely new menu, but a top-to-bottom interior remodeling in amber and chocolate tones that features an expanded bar/lounge with a wine wall, plush booths, an onyx community table that is lit from below, two dining rooms and a private dining room for social and corporate events.

The owners of Citi Cucina collaborated with Chef Rino Aprea, of Areo’s, Brooklyn, N.Y., to create a new menu that they believe reflects a more modern and refined interpretation of classic Italian fare.

Mosco, who also co-owns Metropolitan Café, and formerly co-owned Café Calore and 75 South, all in Freehold, said that after 10 years, they felt it was time for a change.

The OceanFirst Foundation, in collaboration with the Lakewood BlueClaws, WOBM-FM and WOBM-AM, has announced the return of the “Home Runs for Heroes” program.

The program, which successfully debuted in 2009, resulted in a donation of $24,000 to local charities that provide essential support to veterans and active duty members of the United States military.

Nine charities are each matched up with one of nine BlueClaws player positions. Every time the BlueClaws hit a home run during a home game, the charity corresponding to the home run hitter will receive a $1,000 donation from OceanFirst Foundation.
