MONROE — Police are searching for an armed man who tried to rob the Raceway gas station at 992 Route 33 on Saturday at about 10 p.m.
Police said an attendant at the station was closing for the night when a man wearing a black mask pulled on the door handle to try to get inside. The door was locked.
When the attendant went toward the door, he saw what he described as a silver or white handgun in the person’s right hand, police said. Because it was dark outside, police said the employee could only describe the man as 5-feet, 6-inches tall with a slim build.
When he found he couldn’t get in the gas station, the man ran around the building toward the Monroe Manor development, police said.
Monroe police along with police from East Windsor searched the area, but couldn’t find the suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to call Monroe Detective Sgt. Lisa Robinson at 732-521-0222, ext. 149.
