Three alleged burglars were arrested by South Brunswick police on Aug. 14 after a video surveillance system showed them in the act of performing the burglary, according to police.
Ricky Greene, 44, Manual Jenkins, 44, and John Logan Jr., 51, all of Elizabeth, are accused of attempting to steal equipment from the Hyundai Motor Corporation on Cranbury Road near Exit 8A of the New Jersey Turnpike.
An officer responded to a burglar alarm at the location at 12:29 p.m. Aug. 14. The officer found a white Ford pickup truck parked at the rear of the building near an exit door with the three suspects inside the vehicle, police said.
Mr. Greene immediately approached the officer and told her they were waiting for a friend. According to police, Mr. Greene provided conflicting accounts as to why the three men were waiting behind the business.
When the officer asked the men for identification, Mr. Greene said he only could provide a temporary restraining order as proof of identification. Mr. Logan only could provide a New Jersey State Department of Corrections prisoner identification card as proof of who he was.
The officer then observed six catalytic converters marked Hyundai and valued at $4,000 in the rear of the pickup truck. The three men then admitted they had taken the converters from the garage, police said.
A Hyundai manager arrived at the location and told police he was unsure of how the men came into possession of the converters, police said. The manager went into an office and viewed the company security video, which showed the men entering the warehouse at 12:18 p.m. through the rear door and then walking out with the converters under their arms, according to police.
All three suspects were charged with burglary, theft and criminal trespass. They are lodged at the Middlesex Adult Corrections Center in lieu of $10,000 bail.
