The Islamic Society of Central Jersey is coordinating relief efforts to send aid to millions of people displaced in Pakistan due to heavy monsoon rains and flooding.
The ISCJ will collect supplies Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the ISCJ building located at 4145 Route 1 South and Route 522 in Monmouth Junction.
The ISCJ is only collecting food and medicine at this time. Those donating food are asked to donate only Halal or vegetarian food items.
Items sought for the collection include anti-diarrhea medicine for adults and children, oral rehydration products such as Pedialyte, pain killers and fever reducers for adults and children, antibiotic ointments, first-aid supplies, insect repellent, diapers, women’s sanitary pads, bottled water and water purification tablets.
Food items sought include energy bars, cereal bars, pre-packaged biscuits, instant dry milk, cereals, and ready to eat canned vegetables that do not require a can opener.
The ISCJ asks that items be delivered in unsealed cardboard boxes, either 15 inches by 15 inches by 12 inches or 16 by 12 by 12.
The ISCJ will continue holding aid collections every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the next few weeks.
