Supporting Rush Holt for re-election in 12th CD

By: centraljersey.com
In her letter of Aug. 19, Beverly Elston asks why Rush Holt refuses to debate. Rush Holt has not refused and he will debate Scott Sipprelle.
Rep. Holt has been our conscientious and dedicated congressman for 12 years and his impressive voting record says more about him than any debate could.
Mr. Holt voted for the military pay raise. He supported GI education benefits for our veterans that will also be available to the children of fallen soldiers. He has sponsored programs to help provide care and services for veterans when they return home.
He has vigorously supported health care reform. No longer can a person bedenied health insurance because of a pre-condition, nor can he or she bedropped by the insurance company when he or she becomes sick. No longer canchildren be excluded for coverage because of pre-existing conditions. There will be a tax credit for some small businesses to help providecoverage for employees.
Rush Holt is an educator and a scientist. Because of his seniority and qualifications he serves on three critical House Committees – Education and Labor, Natural Resources, and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He is currently the only member of the NJ delegation, and the only scientist to serve on the Intelligence Committee. He also serves as the Chairman of the Select Intelligence Oversight Panel.
I urge all to log on to www.rushholt.com to see how enormously fortunate we are to be represented by someone with the breadth of experience, education, integrity and dedication of Rush Holt.

Let’s not travel the road of Greece
To the editor:
Maybe it would be helpful to think of oneself in an automobile that is headed near the edge of a cliff, and the driver is not steering the car. If there was another person in the front seat, capable of steering the car back onto the road, most of us, if we were in the back seat wouldn’t remotely consider the political affiliation of the person in the passenger seat, who could steer the car back onto the road.
That’s about where we are as a nation. We have seen the future, and it is Greece. Greek federal government insolvent, no market for government bonds, and public employees demonstrating in the streets. Greece is only slightly ahead of us. The world is recognizing that the financial condition in the US has moved us in exactly the same direction that the government in Greece choose.
The 12th Congressional District in Mercer County has been represented for a decade, by a bright man, who is quite likable. However, he has supported the very measures that have pointed our nation over the same cliff that brought down Greece.
Please forget about party preferences in the past, and help put the hands of Scott Sipprelle on the wheel in the upcoming congressional election.
