Two travelers from the United Kingdom staying at the Days Inn on Route 206 reported that a piece of luggage containing $6,000 in European currency was stolen at the hotel on July 28.
The luggage was reportedly left in a public restroom and was later returned to the front desk with the currency missing.
A Claudia Road resident reported on July 31 that his garage had been broken into sometime during the overnight hours, and two bicycles and two remote control cars were stolen. The total value of the stolen property was reported to be $550.
Nicholas Pileggi, 23, of Hillsborough was charged with shoplifting a nutritional supplement, valued at $55, from the Smoothie King store on Route 206. Mr. Pileggi was released on his own after the charge was filed.
Emmet Kavanagh, 19, of Downingtown, Pa., was charged with underage possession of alcohol after the green Mazda he was driving was stopped on Route 206 for a motor vehicle violation on July 31. Mr. Kavanagh was released after processing.
A Meadowbrook Drive resident reported that a GPS unit, valued at $450, was stolen from his vehicle sometime between Aug. 3 and Aug. 4, as the vehicle was parked the driveway.
Two businesses on Old Camplain Road reported burglaries during the overnight hours of Aug. 3 to Aug. 4. JC Concrete and Curb reported a power tool, valued at $350, had been stolen during the night, and the owner of Glass Systems reported that a computer monitor, valued at $400, had been stolen form the business.
Anthony Laeyt, 26, of Bala Cynwyd, Pa., was charged with obstructing justice after he was stopped for a motor vehicle violation on Route 206 on Aug. 5 and provided a false name to police, and claimed to not have his driver’s license with him. Mr. Laeyt was also charged with speeding, and driving on a suspended license.
Police also discovered outstanding warrants issued by other municipalities and turned him over to Somerset County Jail, after he was unable to post bail.
A Renard Road resident reported that that his home was burglarized during the daytime hours Aug. 6, and jewelry and cash, va1ued at $8,300, was stolen.
A Powelson Drive resident reported that his Lincoln, valued at $30,160, was stolen from his home’s driveway during the overnight hours of Aug. 6 to Aug. 7.
The vehicle was in Plainfield, burned, prior to being reported stolen.
A Fisher Drive resident reported that his Jeep was entered during the overnight hours of Aug. 6 to Aug. 7 while parked in a parking lot on Eves Drive, and $1,200 in cash was stolen.
Oleh Solomon, 21, of Trenton, was charged with shoplifting a power tool, valued at $299, from the Lowes Home Improvement store in the Hillsborough Promenade, Aug. 7. Mr. Solomon was released after posting $750 bail.
An Anne Street resident reported that her home was broken into during the daytime hours of July 30. Multiple items of women’s jewelry, valued at $8,969 altogether, were reported stolen.
Justin Ferguson, 23, of Hillsborough, was charged with DWI at 3:08 a.m. July 31, after police observed the vehicle he was driving on Route 206 cross the center line. He was taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests, and a breath test determined his blood alcohol content was 0.18 percent. New Jersey law defines a BAC of 0.8 percent or higher as intoxicated.
Mr. Ferguson was also charged with failing to keep right.
Brian Schachne, 27, of Hillsborough, was charged with DWI at 11:45 a.m. Aug. 10 after he struck a curb on Taurus Drive. Mr. Schachne was released after the charge was filed.
The ShopRite grocery store in Nelson’s Corner shopping center reported on Aug. 10 the theft of three television sets, valued at $449 in total, between Aug. 8 and Aug. 9. The theft was discovered when store representatives reviewed surveillance tapes.
Rachel Parks, 34, of Hillsborough, was charged with DWI at 2:40 p.m. Aug. 11, after she the vehicle she was driving on Route 206 drove onto the front lawn of the United Rental store.
Ms. Parks was released after also being charged with careless driving and driving without insurance.
Leah Buttacavoli, 25, of Hillsborough, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia Aug. 19. Ms. Buttacavoli was released after the charge was processed.
