An 11-year-old Hillsborough girl was pronounced dead at the scene of a Montgomery Road car accident from injuries sustained during the Sunday crash, according to Hillsborough Township police.
In addition, her 17-year-old sister, who was driving the car, needed to be transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick for non-life threatening injuries from the crash. The 17-year-old was transported to the hospital by medical helicopter.
Police are not releasing the identities of the girls because they are minors; however, published reports identified the victim as Theresa Dunn, and the driver as Nicole Dunn.
Police reported responding to the accident scene around 10 a.m. Sunday, and found the car lying on its side on the side of the road. A preliminary investigation determined that the car left the road, was steered back onto the road and then rolled over. The car overturned several times, though police have not determined an exact number of times it overturned, they said.
The 11-year-old needed to be extricated from the vehicle and was pronounced dead following the extrication, police said.
The make and model of the car, and information on whether the vehicle hit anything, was unavailable because of an ongoing investigation by Hillsborough police and the Somerset County Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team.
Anyone with information regarding the accident should contact the Hillsborough Township Police Department at 908-369-4323, ext. 8.
Somerville Funeral home is handling services, and a viewing occurred from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann’s Church in Raritan, according to published reports.
