To ensure the safety of students returning to school next week, police will once again implement “Operation Safe Schools.”
Officers will be stationed at schools to assist students and parents during the school year’s opening weeks.
”Our goal is to have a safe and secure start to the school year,” said Chief Raymond Hayducka. “With 9,000 students heading back, there will be increased traffic and pedestrian traffic that the motoring public will have to adjust to.”
There will be zero tolerance zones around each school where officers will be deployed to monitor speeding, pedestrian crossings and parking issues.
South Brunswick police also are asking the public to do their part to help keep students safe by being aware that there will be children waiting at bus stops, crossing streets and walking to school. The new school year will begin Tuesday.
