   Fall registration for YMCA programs is underway for full privilege members and program members. Classes run Sept. 13th – Nov. 21st. Visit www.ymcasomersetvalley.org for more information and to view a program guide.
   The Somerset County Park Commission is seeking children ages 6 — 12 to sign up as Junior Ranger recruits for a summer of outdoor entertainment and education. The Junior Rangers will learn about the natural world and how ecosystems work while working hand in hand with the Park Rangers; Junior Ranger Workbooks are available for free at the Ranger stations in Colonial Park in Franklin Township and Duke Island Park in Bridgewater. When the activities in the Workbook are completed a Park Ranger to review the work, administer the Junior Ranger pledge, and present the official Junior Ranger badge.
   Junior Rangers are also entitled to participate in special events and programs throughout the summer and fall. Upcoming programs include: Pond Clean-up at Colonial Park on Aug. 15; Tree Tour at Natirar on Sept. 25; Mountain Biking at Washington Valley Park on Oct. 2; and Learning Lenape at Colonial Park Nov. 20.

   The next meeting of the Manville Public Library Board of Trustees will be 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in the library, at 100 S. 10th Ave.
   St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church will sponsor a Slavic dinner from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 8. The dinner will be held in the St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. The cost is $12 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and under), and includes all-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, salad, desert and beverage. Looking ahead
   Manville Reformed Church, South Fifth and Pope streets, will be holding a Harvest Home Dinner at noon Sept. 12. The menu will include chicken, ham, potatoes, corn, dessert, coffee and tea. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for ages 6 to 12 (under 5 free). Take out is available for 50 cents extra. Reservations are required for eat-in and take out. Call 908-575-0173 by Sept. 5.
   Author Robin Gaby Fisher, a nationally-acclaimed news feature writer with the Star-Ledger, will have a book signing of “After the Fire,” the story of two survivors of the deadly 2000 fire at Seton Hall University, at the Manville Public Library, 100 S. 10th Ave., Manville, at noon Sept. 13.    Prudential New Jersey Properties is sponsoring its sixth annual golf invitational at Hillsborough’s Royce Brook Golf Club Sept. 13 to benefit The Sunshine Kids Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing positive activities and emotional support for children with cancer. Participation and other sponsorship opportunities are available for the full day event that culminates in a closing ceremony filled with entertainment and prizes. The tournament welcomes golf enthusiasts of all ages and abilities — player entry is $175 per person, which includes greens’ fees, lunch, dinner, drinks, raffle, awards and silent auction. A dinner package that includes everything except golfing is available for $75.    The Manville Board of Education will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 in the media center at Alexander Batcho Intermediate School.

   Manville First Aid and Rescue Squad, celebrating its 75th anniversary, will hold an indoor and outdoor flea market and craft show 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 18 at the VFW Post 2010. The event will be held rain or shine, and includes a bake sale. Breakfast and lunch will be available. All proceeds benefit the squad.    The Sacred Heart Altar Rosary Society will hold a Pasta supper 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Sacred Heart Church auditorium on Filak Street. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 8 and under, and will be sold at the door. Food, prepared and donated by Manville Pizzeria, will include salad, spaghetti and meatballs, penne in vodka sauce, ziti, pesto, cake and coffee or tea.
   The Small Business Development Center at Raritan Valley Community College will offer no-cost business counseling at Affinity Federal Credit Union, at the Hillsborough Promenade, 315 Route 206, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20.    Somerset Medical Center’s second annual Steeplechase Distance Run will be held Oct. 3 at Auten Road Intermediate School, on Auten Road in Hillsborough. The event includes 25K and 5K runs, as well as a 1-mile walk, with proceeds benefitting Somerset Medical Center’s Steeplechase Cancer Center. Registration for the event will begin at 6:30 a.m. Oct. 3, followed by the 25K run at 8 a.m., 5K run at 8:30 a.m., and one-mile walk at 9:30 a.m. Fees range from $15 to $45, and participants are welcome to donate additional funds to the Steeplechase Cancer Center.    The Manville Education Foundation golf outing will be held Sept. 28 at Royce Brook Golf Club in Hillsborough, raising funds to support Manville students and education.    The Manville Democratic Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Annex room at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2290. The committee meets on the first Thursday of every month.
