Hillsborough Senior Citizens Chapter A meets the first Thursday of each month at 12:30 p.m. in the municipal building. We are open to new members. At our last meeting, we welcomed eight new members, six of whom are guys and our president cheered since most of our members are ladies. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. allowing time for signups and socializing. We reward you with coffee and donuts at meeting’s end. Dick Meier is president and you can call him at 359-6948.
The heat has been relentless and the usual rain we get in this area seems to be going farther north though I’m glad we didn’t get those tornadoes. I believe we are having our local climate change. The burned lawns look like the end of August but Mother Nature will do her thing.
Our Anniversary Party held at the Polish Falcons turned out very well, few gripes as usual, but the plusses made it all worthwhile. We had a wonderful appetizer table with all sorts of veggies and cheeses and dips and at the end of this long table, a very large bowl of shrimp. This was not the tiny kind and the bowl stayed full for the first round and for seconds and more. You could make a meal of this treat but there was more to come. The servers were cheerful and made us feel special.
None of this great stuff happens by itself. We need to thank the people in the background who work to pull it all together. So often we take it all for granted.
We brought the rain with us for the Circle Line tour but we were inside, dry and cozy. This time again we were treated to an individual who pointed out places of interest along with historical stories. This man was a wonder, remarkable that he could rattle off all this information. Of course, he was telling us that he had just written a book but was not allowed to offer it on the cruise.
Sept. 13-17 – Cape Cod. By this time, we should have made our last payment and start looking for the clothes we want to wear. We depart from the municipal building at 8 a.m. Rain or shine, this will be an interesting destination. You can park your car in the municipal parking lot or have someone drop you off and pick you up on your return.
Sept. 2- Regular meeting. We’ll be having a special treat at this time, we’ll be entertained by the Heartlands Hayride Band. They have been on FM radio for several years and their talent is excellent country music. I’m looking forward to seeing the musicians I’ve heard, now in person. The Hayride has retained its down-home folksy style people our age first heard. No shrieks and yowls.
Oct. 13 – Appreciation lunch at the municipal building. 11:30 a.m. Bingo at 1 p.m. Cost $12, refunded on arrival.
Oct. 20 – Woodloch Pines in Hawley, Pa., Octoberfest buffet. Cost if $65, depart at 9 a.m. from Pathmark. This is a new destination and Dick assures us it’s great. He read us the fare we can choose from and it sounds fabulous.
Dollar Store at our October meeting. We have received some very nice things from someone who is downsizing and, of course, if you have something that is taking up space and not being used, we’d be glad or the donation. The money goes to the kitchen.
Atlantic City – First Monday of each month, the bus leaves at 9 a.m. from Pathmark. Call 359-6418 for details and reservations. This is a large bus and if you decide on the spur of the moment to come along, you can do that, too. This services is open to anyone, not just club members.

Chapter B
Chapter B meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at the municipal building unless otherwise specified. We open the doors at 11:30 a.m. to give members an opportunity to purchase tickets for upcoming events. Meetings start promptly at 12:30 p.m.
Our September meeting is scheduled for Sept. 9th. . Immediately following our business portion of this meeting, we have a guest speaker, Dr. Frederick Song, who will discuss shoulder pain and injuries and, hopefully, answer some of your questions. Refreshments to follow.
Christmas in September
On Sept. 9th, the same day as our regular meeting, we are having a gala sale in our Senior Activity Room featuring all new items. The event will start at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. Lots of great Christmas items will be available for purchase, as well as other items. This event is open to all. Please feel free to drop in and look around and maybe pick up a bargain or two.
We have several upcoming trips that have spaces still available. Penn’s Peak, Jim Thorpe, Pa., on Oct. 7th for a cost of $65; and an overnight trip to Woodlock Pines, located in northeast Pennsylvania scheduled for Nov. 7 and 8 for a cost of $199. In addition to both of the above, we will be selling bingo and movie tickets for upcoming months, as well as tickets to our fall luncheon scheduled for October. Please check tables in back of meeting room at our September meeting.
Our trip committee, headed by Virginia Hutson, president, takes great pride in coming up with new ideas for locations and trips. We came up with a winner on Aug. 25th with a trip to Freehold Raceway. A busload of 45 seniors arrived and took the place by storm. The dining room was lovely overlooking the track and we all had great seats. The food was outstanding and was available to all throughout the day. When it came to betting and to cheering on our horses, I must say, I thought I was participating with a group of young teenagers. The yelling and the laughter filled the room. What a great time everyone had and there were many requests to go again.
