American Legion Post 401, the Ladies Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion will kick off their annual food drive on American Legion Day, September 16, in support of the South Brunswick Food Bank. “American Legion Day was established by proclamation of the U.S. Congress last year as a way to recognize the Legion’s 90 years of service to our nation and our communities,” said Gary Cooper, Post 401 commander. “We decided to start our food drive now because our residents and our food bank need supplies now, not just for the holidays.” Area residents may drop off their non-perishable food donations at the American Legion Post Home, 148 Major Rd., Monmouth Junction, anytime after 2 p.m., 7 days a week. “We ask that everyone coming to our karaoke dances or our Oktoberfest bring donations with them,” Cooper added.
