Bordentown Regional High School is participating in the Positive Behavior Support in Schools (PBSIS) project which is a partnership between the New Jersey Department of Education and The Elizabeth M. Boggs Center of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The purpose of this project is to teach positive social skills and recognize students who are engaging in behaviors that improve the social climate and community.
The school spent the past year planning the initiative and will be implementing it this September
As part of the program, it has established the theme Bordentown is on Point! The schoolwide behavior expectations will be Respect Yourself and Others, Be Accountable and Aspire Higher.
The school is enlisting the assistance of community members and businesses to support this new program by participating in the kickoff celebration on Friday Sept. 10, at Bordentown Regional High School at 1 p.m. The event will begin with a performance by students.
Recent student accomplishments will be recognized, including Anthony Covington, who was elected governor of the American Legion Jersey Boys State.
Finally, the students will proceed to the school’s courtyard to celebrate the community.
The aim is to teach students that they are a part of a larger community that supports one another.
Students and staff will spend time moving around to learn about various aspects of the community, and to celebrate one another, according to Patrick Lynch, high school principal.
