Thursday, Sept. 9 Alf and Ceil Berg, owners of the Herbertsville Honey Company in Point Pleasant, will be the speakers at the meeting of the Allentown Garden Club. Experienced beekeepers and winners of the NJ State Honey Show Awards the last three years, they will explore the importance of bees and will bring an observation hive, as well as honey for participants to taste.

Friday, Oct. 1 The Allentown Upper Freehold Lions Club will hold its annual Edward “Pop” Rockhill Memorial Golf Tournament at Gambler Ridge Golf Course. Lunch is at noon. Shotgun start is at 1 p.m. with dinner and prizes to follow.

Annual 5-mile run, nature trail walk
Saturday, Oct. 16 Robbinsville Township will host the 17th annual Tomm May 5 Mile Run and Nature Trail Fun Walk at Tantum Park in Robbinsville. The fun walk starts at 9:15 a.m. and the 5-mile run begins at 10 a.m.
Registration, if postmarked by Oct. 7, is $18 for the run and $12 for the fun walk. Short-sleeved shirts will be given to pre-registered entrants. Cash and merchandise prizes will be awarded in various male and female divisions. A disc jockey will provide music at the event and there will be free post-race food and refreshments.

Free paper shredding
Saturday, Oct. 23 Robbinsville Township will hold a free residential paper-shredding event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until truck is filled) at the township firehouse, 1149 Route 130 North. Rain or shine. Proof of township residency required: driver’s license, tax bill or utility bill.
BRING: paper material and file folders, receipts, bills, financial statements or anything you have not recycled for confidentiality concerns. One hundred pound limit. DO NOT BRING: books, magazines and newspapers. These items can be disposed of through the regular curbside pickup service.
