The Dinners on the Farm series, which combines behind-the-scenes farm tours with fresh and seasonal meals prepared by local chefs, will continue Sept. 19 from 3-7 p.m. at Manoff Market Gardens, 3100 Comfort Road, Solebury.
The distance between farm and table has never been shorter, according to a spokesman.
Manoff Market Gardens will host the event and provide access to their fields. The farm produces varieties of organic vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers.
Chef Mark Miller and his team from Hamilton’s Grill Room will showcase the best offerings of the farm, with a strong emphasis on Manoff Market’s vegetables, in a four-course meal with complimentary wines specifically chosen to accompany each course from Crossing Vineyards & Winery, Washington Crossing, Pa.
”This kind of event enables us to reach out to the public and say that these restaurants and these chefs are going above and beyond in their commitment to supporting New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania agriculture,” said Mikey Azzara, founder of the local produce distribution company Zone 7, which founded the series.
Dinners on the Farm also provides first-hand knowledge of how food begins in the field. Amy and Gary Manoff have been farming for over 25 years on Comfort Road, growing tree fruit and berries including white and yellow peaches, white and yellow nectarines, 20 different apple varieties, six varieties of strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, cherries, melons, pumpkins, herbs and seasonal flowers.
The Manoffs have been committed to sustainable soil management and irrigation systems in their orchard and farm. Along with their children, Chelsea and Michael, Amy and Gary Manoff enjoy connecting with their customers.
Hamilton’s Grill Room, which opened in June 1988, and is the creation of Broadway set designer and restaurateur Jim Hamilton. The menu changes daily and reflects seasonal, local and simply prepared foods with an admiration for Mediterranean-inspired classics. The restaurant is an enthusiastic customer of Zone 7, a farm-fresh distribution service that delivers the highest quality ingredients from New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania farms to restaurants, grocers and institutions.
Based in central New Jersey and named after its agricultural growing zone, Zone 7 began operation in spring 2008 to satisfy the growing demand for local ingredients. Zone 7’s role is to act as a direct link between farmers and chefs, creating a new and dependable outlet for farmers and offering a consistent and reliable source of locally grown products to chefs and grocers.
”Part of our mission is to shine the spotlight on our farms and our great chefs,” said Mr. Azzara, who previously was the outreach coordinator for the Northeast Organic Farming Association (New Jersey).
Dinners on the Farm will host the final dinner in this year’s series in October at Blooming Glen Farm in Perkasie, Pa., with Chef Vincent Peterson of Kindle Café in Lambertville.
Cost is $135 per person.
