Friday, Sept. 10 – The Mariboe Gallery at Peddie School will hold an opening reception for an exhibition of sculptures by Boston-based artist Sachiko Akiyama from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., with an artist talk at approximately 7:15. The exhibition will run through Oct. 4.

Memorial ride for Ron Ross
Saturday, Sept. 11 – A motorcycle ride for the late Ron Ross, a former Hightstown resident, will begin at Brian’s Harley Davidson, I-95 exit 44 and Business Route 1 south, Langhorne, Pa.
Registration is from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and the ride begins at 11 a.m. The two-hour ride will be followed by a cash barbecue. For information, call 215-752-9400.
Fun Fest

Pancake breakfast
Sunday, Sept. 12 – Hightstown Elks Lodge #1955 will hold this fundraiser at the lodge at 110 Hickory Corner Road from 8 a.m. to noon. Come and enjoy a variety of pancakes including chocolate chip, banana, blueberry and strawberry supreme. Sausage, bacon, fresh fruit, coffee, tea and juice also will be available.

Saturday, Sept. 18 – The Next Level Youth Skate Program is holding this event from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at East Windsor Bowl, Route 33. The price, which includes shows, will be $20 for ages 18 and older; and $15 for ages 17 and under. Registration is not required.

Fall Festival
Saturday, Sept. 25 – This event, from noon to 5 p.m., will be held by the Elks SW District National Veteran’s Service at the Hightstown Elks Lodge at 110 Hickory Corner Road. It will be under the pavilion- rain or shine.

Operation Medicine Cabinet
Saturday, Sept. 25 – East Windsor will participate in this event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Operation Medicine Cabinet 2010 is a program sponsored by the New Jersey office of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration offering residents the opportunity to dispose of all unused, unwanted and expired prescription medications in a safe manner.
The township will have a drop box in the lobby of the police building, at 80 One Mile Road, for the collection of these various medicines.
KidsTriathlon
Saturday, Sept. 25 – Hightstown’s second annual Kids Triathlon will begin at 3:30 p.m. It will be comprised of a 100-yard swim, a 3-mile bike ride and a 1-mile run.

Sprint Triathlon
Sunday, Sept. 26 – Hightstown’s third annual Sprint Triathlon, which supports Parks and Recreation programs, will begin at 7:30 a.m. The course will be comprised of a quarter-mile swim, a 12-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run.

Watershed FEST
Saturday, Oct. 2 – The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association, central New Jersey’s first environmental group, will hold Water Works: The 35th Annual Watershed FEST at 6:30 p.m. at the 860-acre Watershed Reserve in Hopewell.
This year’s FEST fundraiser combines fine food, music and fun with a celebration of the water and environment. The event includes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live music and a silent auction under a tent. It will conclude with dinner served by Emily’s Cafe and Catering and a fun live auction featuring the chance to take home trips, tickets, jewelry, restaurant packages and more.

Hometown Harvest Fair
Saturday, Oct. 9 – Hightstown’s annual event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Continuous entertainment will be provided at the lakeside stage and the fountain at The Point, along with the traditional 5K race, chili cook-off, Ducky Derby, pedal boats on the lake, and about 200 vendors and organizations.
The Children’s Pavilion will include a moonbouncer and slide, a stilt-walker/juggler, balloonist, ponies to ride and baby animals to pet. And new to the fair this year will be a scarecrow contest, an OctoberFest with wine and beer tastings, strolling musicians, a train show, farmer’s market and trolley cars to provide transportation.

Saturday, Oct. 9 – Animal Friends for Education and Welfare is having its sixth Wine Event with more than 120 wines and 60 craft beers from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Haldeman Ford Subaru, 607 Route 33 (across from Staples), Hamilton.
Advance tickets have been reduced to $35. Tickets purchased at the door are $45. Proceeds from this event will help AFEW’s spay/neuter program and the Hamilton Township Animal Shelter.

Sunday, Oct. 17 – Have you ever driven past beautiful, historic homes in Hightstown and wondered what they look like inside? You will have a chance from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the Hightstown-East Windsor Historical Society’s biannual house tour.
Titled "The Way We Were," this tour will feature five private homes as well as Musing Antiques (located in one of Hightstown’s oldest buildings) and the Hightstown Grange #96 and Masonic Lodge.
Advance-sale tickets cost $17 for adults and $5 for children. They are on sale at Perennial Home at 119 W. Ward St., Old Hights Print Shop at 177 Mercer St., and Hair by Sharon at 128 Stockton St., all in Hightstown. In East Windsor, they are available at Weichert Realtors at 417 Route 130.
Halloween contest
Wednesday, Oct. 27 – The third annual Hightstown Haunted Halloween Home Decorating Contest will be judged Wednesday, Oct. 27. The Boo Crew using the following criteria: originality, neatness, scariness and overall appearance.
Residents are encouraged to nominate a residence that they feel demonstrates the Halloween spirit. Nominations will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26. First-, second- and third- place winners will be announced and awarded prizes at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at It’s Magic, the magic store by the fountain at 109 Mercer St.
