BORDENTOWN CITY – A new health and fitness center, Retro Fitness of Bordentown, plans to open early next month at the former Ford dealership on Route 206 and Mayor James Lynch planned an early welcome for the establishment on Wednesday morning, Sept. 15.
The mayor was to present owner Peter Mercatanti with a proclamation on the Mayors Wellness Campaign, a statewide effort to promote wellness and reduce health-care costs.
The 15,000-square-foot center will open in the renovated dealership building that has been vacant for five years.
"We’re thrilled to have them here," said Mayor Lynch on Monday, noting the firm has spent more than $1million in renovations and equipment. "We’re thrilled he has that kind of confidence in Bordentown, especially in bad economic times."
The fitness center, located across from the Town and Country Diner, will have 300 pieces of equipment, including a cardio theater filled with treadmills, ellipticals and bikes. Personal LCD screens will allow customers to watch TV or a movie of the day or listen to music while working out. It will have a juice bar, showers, locker rooms, outdoor patio area with free wireless Internet, pro and gift shop, bike rentals and parking for 300 cars.
Personal trainers will be availablefor one-on-one training, along with group training classes and weight/food management classes.
"We’re different," said Mr. Mercatanti. "The Retro Fitness approach is ‘back to basics.’ We’re going to make exercising and staying healthy, both mentally and physically, entertaining, fun, and stress-free. We also want our members to use our facilities as a social hub to connect with members of the community, friends, and family."
Retro plans to offer special prices for law enforcement, fire and EMT personnel as it opens.
