The Manville Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. every second Thursday of the month at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2290 located on Washington Avenue. The club is open to new members who are residents of Manville, age 60 and older, or age 55 if disabled.
Canned goods or non-perishable food items will continue to be collected before each meeting, as well as soup labels. Food donations are needed by the food bank.
Blood pressure screening is held before the beginning of each meeting.
It’s that time of the year: tickets will be on sale October and November for the annual Christmas Party, to be held Sunday, Dec. 12, at the VFW. Tickets are $10 for members and $20 guests and the same reimbursement procedures will be followed.
Donna has finalized the dates for our 2011 trips. They are Mohegan Sun Feb. 1-3; Renfro Valley, Ky., June 2-6; and Branson, Mo., Oct. 1-9. She will have information available, as well as sign-up sheets, and can be contacted at 908-722-0325. The deposit for Mohegan Sun is due and must be paid at the next meeting.
Recreation events
Dec. 31: New Year’s at the Inn at Hunts Landing, Matamoras, Pa. Trip includes a welcome reception with pastries and coffee, hot breakfast buffet, movie, participation in bingo or card playing, 4-hour open bar, music, dancing, entertainment and themed-dinner buffet. The bus will depart from the VFW at 7:30 a.m. and leave the Inn at 4 p.m. The cost is $68, and can be booked with Josephine Pschar at 908-722-0156. This trip is open to the public.
Atlantic City: The bus leaves at 9 a.m. from the VFW parking lot on the third Wednesday of each month for Showboat Casino, and the cost is $25. The trip is now open to the public by reservation only – make your reservation with Josephine Pschar at the meeting or call her at 908-722-0156.

Manville Senior Center, South Third Avenue, Manville, is open from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Open to anyone older than 60.
Regular activities include, blood pressure screening third Tuesday of each month; exercise every Tuesday and Thursday, 11 a.m.; Mobile Postal Service fourth Tuesday of each month; Bingo Wednesday 11:15 a.m.; birthdays fourth Thursday of each month.

Chapter A
Hillsborough Senior Citizens Chapter A meets the first Thursday of each month at 12:30 p.m. in the municipal building. We are open to new members. At our last meeting, we welcomed eight new members, six of whom are guys and our president cheered since most of our members are ladies. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. allowing time for signups and socializing. We reward you with coffee and donuts at meeting’s end. Dick Meier is president and you can call him at 359-6948.
Oct. 13 – Appreciation lunch at the municipal building. 11:30 a.m. Bingo at 1 p.m. Cost $12, refunded on arrival.
Oct. 20 – Woodloch Pines in Hawley, Pa., Octoberfest buffet. Cost if $65, depart at 9 a.m. from Pathmark. This is a new destination and Dick assures us it’s great. He read us the fare we can choose from and it sounds fabulous.
Atlantic City – First Monday of each month, the bus leaves at 9 a.m. from Pathmark. Call 359-6418 for details and reservations. This is a large bus and if you decide on the spur of the moment to come along, you can do that, too. This services is open to anyone, not just club members.

Chaper B
Chapter B meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at the municipal building unless otherwise specified. We open the doors at 11:30 a.m. to give members an opportunity to purchase tickets for upcoming events. Meetings start promptly at 12:30p.m. New members are accepted in the club every February. In order to be accepted, you must first place your name on our waiting list.
Oct. 14th is the date scheduled for our October meeting. It will also be our fall luncheon. This will be a hot luncheon and catered by Plaza Deli. Tickets were sold in August and September – no tickets will be sold at the door. Cost for luncheon is $15 and will be refunded upon attendance.

Hillsborough Senior Center, 339 South Branch Road, offers the following activities: Bingo Monday and Wednesday, 11 to 11:30 a.m. Blood pressure screening third Tuesday of each month, 10:30 a.m. Exercise Tuesday and Friday, 11 a.m. Postal visits, fourth Tuesday, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
The Hillsborough Senior Center is one of seven centers operated by the Somerset County Office on Aging. The center, which is accessible to individuals with disabilities, offers a variety of educational, recreational and entertaining activities for seniors, including wellness programs and health screenings.
The center is also offering exercise programs on Tuesday and Friday; Mah Jong at 9:30 a.m. every Friday; A "Mind your Mind" program stimulating minds every Wednesday.
