Dems support women, see strength in diversity

It pleases me to see such a well-blended, diversified group of candidates on the Middlesex County Democratic ticket for the November election. The fact that three of the five candidates are highly capable, hardworking and qualified women is truly a sight to see. It shows that our county Democrats recognize women who have so much to offer.

I have known and worked with Sheriff candidate Millie Scott, County Clerk Elaine Flynn and Freeholder Blanquita Valenti for enough years to attest to the fact that they are proven leaders. Women can proudly look up to them and be motivated to run for political office. After all, women make up more than 50 percent of voters. Yet they are grossly underrepresented throughout government.

The county Republican Party, in comparison, offers five all-white males on its slate. What does that say about the party? How can it clearly reject women as candidates? Where has it been? How is this tolerated in today’s day and age?

Voters have a clear choice this November. Democrats in Middlesex County welcome and recognize the strength that diversity brings to our democracy. I am proud to support them and will help work for their continued success.
