MONROE A petting zoo, and a classic car show and live performances!
These are just some of the many activities scheduled for the township’s 22nd annual Country Fair on Sunday at Thompson Park.
Other activities include games, pony rides, giveaways, and a variety of contests, such as the Little Miss Monroe, Town Squire, and Baby Buggy contests. If residents are looking to sit back and relax, scheduled events include performances from DJ Wacky Wayne, the band Next of Kin, the Monroe Township Police Department Color Guard, and the Monroe Wolverine Flag Cheerleaders.
If residents are looking for a little more action, there will also be a karate demonstration.
The fair is organized by The Monroe Township Mother’s Club with the help of the Department of Recreation.
The Monroe Township Mother’s Club is a non-profit organization that started in 1952 and has been organizing the country fair since its beginning in 1988.
The money the club raises goes directly back to the Monroe community.
According to Nancy Smith, the club’s president and chairwoman, the money is donated to a variety of township causes, including local sports teams, families who may need financial assistance, and other annual events in the town, such as this year’s Halloween Parade on Oct. 23.
However, it is because of the support of the Department of Recreation and the local businesses that the Mother’s Club is able to keep helping the community, Ms. Smith said.
”It’s a great event,” she added. “Our town is really huge and you get to see all your friends.”
The fair is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m.
Admission is free, but donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted for the Monroe Township Food Bank.
The rain date is Sept. 26.
