Bear Tavern Road resident Erika Kotite is running for the Hopewell Township Committee as a Democrat.
"I love Hopewell Township and want to do what I can to make sure it remains a great community. I want to serve on the Township Committee to ensure that Hopewell Township continues to be both affordable and family friendly," she said.
Ms. Kotite replaces Lois Brown on the Democratic ticket. Ms. Brown stepped down on Friday because of unexpected family obligations related to the recent passing of a family member.
Ms. Kotite has been a member of the Hopewell Township Historic Preservation Commission since 2008.
"My husband and I chose to move our family to Bear Tavern Road in Hopewell Township because we fell in love with its rustic beauty. I joined the Historic Preservation Commission because I learned about the historical significance of my neighborhood and Hopewell generally. In order to celebrate Hopewell’s significance in American history, we must preserve our rural landscape. The two are intertwined," the candidate said.
Ms. Kotite is the owner of Kotite Media Group, a New Jersey LLC, and editor of Toque, an online national culinary magazine, www.toquemag.com. She has spent most of her career as a magazine editor, including management roles at Entrepreneur, Hybrid Mom and Victorian Homes. Kotite also consults and manages book projects for several major publishers. She is the mother of three children. All attend public schools in the Valley.
Ms. Kotite said she wants to use her small business expertise to improve local economic sustainability within the township. "In order for us to maintain a diverse and successful business base, we must ensure that revenues stay here, a goal that involves urging residents to ‘shop local,’ supporting markets and festivals such as the Pennington Farmer’s Market and making it possible for those with modest incomes to continue to live in our community."
