A Million Minutes for Peace, an interfaith peace demonstration will take place Tuesday in Tiger Park, Palmer Square.
Tuesday is United Nations International Day for Peace, to demonstrate that peace is possible and interfaith cooperation can help us achieve it. In addition to some brief prayers for peace from representatives of various religions, there will be a minute of silence for peace at noon, joining millions of others around the world who maintain religious beliefs do not have to be a source of division but a sign of the wholeness that results from diversity.
Fellowship in Prayer, a multi-faith Princeton-based nonprofit committed to fostering interfaith spiritual practice in pursuit of justice and peace, is partnering with the Coalition for Peace Action, The Princeton Clergy Association and Princeton Community TV in hosting this event as part of Odyssey Networks’ initiative, "A Million Minutes for Peace."
Odyssey Networks is a multi-faith media coalition that created the International Day of Peace observance and is dedicated to producing and distributing media that builds bridges of understanding and promotes peace, tolerance and issues of social justice.
"At a time when anti-Islamic sentiment is running high and religious controversy and violence dominates the news, it is more important than ever that people of conscience who value the American ideals on which this country were founded stand in solidarity with one another across all faiths and wisdom traditions," says Janet Haag, Fellowship in Prayer’s executive director, "it is our hope for peace in this world."
The demonstration will begin at 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday.
