Brian “Maynard” Welsh, 51, of Hamilton, was killed the afternoon of Aug. 29 when he was hit by an Amtrak Acela train.
On Thursday, Mercer County Deputy Director of Communications Pete Daly said the county medical examiner’s office has determined the cause of death was massive traumatic injuries and the manner of death was suicide.
Mr. Welsh was a social studies teacher and soccer coach at West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional High School South, where he worked for 30 years. Friends and former students described him as someone who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind and would talk to anyone, and as a mentor who had a powerful, positive influence on those he taught.
On the social networking site Facebook, many alumni posted as their status, “RIP Brian Welsh, my favorite high school teacher.”
Mr. Welsh is survived by his wife, five children, and many other friends and family members. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kendall, Shannon, and Mollie Welsh College Fund, c/o Wachovia Bank, 1177 Route 33, Hamilton Square, NJ 08690.
