Kyle Hoehn scored on a two-yard run with 8:56 left in the game to pull Hopewell close, but a missed PAT spelled a 7-6 loss for HoVal against Northern Burlington last Friday. Tim Sutton carried for 63 yards and Matt Pagano, the 12th Man TD Club’s Defensive Back of the Week, played a little offense as well by rushing for 48 yards. Hopewell is picking up where it left off a year ago, as its 2-1 win over West Windsor-Plainsboro North Tuesday upped the Bulldogs record to 4-0. Danielle Stout converted a Whitney Bickford corner kick for the first goal, and Bickord tallied off a feed from Jenna Kalwa for what proved to be the game-winner. The Bulldogs rolled to their fourth straight win to open the season with a 2-0 decision over Princeton Tuesday. Jen Didun and Alicia Wagner had the goals, and Didun added an assist. Natalie Winters made five saves for the shutout. BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
The Bulldogs defeated Hamilton West 15-50 and fell to Hightstown (24-31) and West Windsor-Plainsboro North (18-41) during a quad meet at Veterans Park Tuesday. Ryan Fredericks finished fourth overall in 16:36, followed by Charlie Yu (11th, 17:07), Nigel Bates (12th, 17:23), Dave Shaffer (20th, 17:46), Chris Guiterrez (22nd, 17:53) and Eric Barbera (24th, 17:57). The Bulldogs had another banner day by rolling to wins over West Windsor-Plainsboro North (26-31), Hightstown (19-40) and Hamilton West (15-50). Casey Quinto was the top Bulldog with a fourth-place time of 20:47. She was followed by Katie Caulfield (sixth, 21:04), Hana Kitka (13th, 21:23), Janet D’Anna (19th, 21:43), Michaela Quale (21st) and Cassie Whitebread, Sarah Toussant and Pooja Shiprashar, who finished 23rd through 25th. Alice Kroutikova’s win at second singles gave Hopewell a 3-2 win over Notre Dame Tuesday as the Bulldogs improved to 3-2. Natalie Kawalec won at first singles, while Sydney Kobil/Maddie Neider won at second doubles.
