"Hometown Heroes Needed to Help Rebuild a Smile": The trustees of the Kelli Hawthorne Trust Fund are hosting a birthday bash fundraiser, "Lucki To Be Alive at 25," at the Lawrenceville Grill in the Quakerbridge Mall from 7:30-10:30 p.m. to benefit Kelli Hawthorne, the Lawrence woman who suffered a traumatic fall in Oregon last year. Walking Tour of historic Lawrenceville School campus: All are invited to a free walking tour of the Lawrenceville School campus, a National Historic Landmark, at 12:30 p.m., rain or shine. The tour is a part of the School’s Bicentennial anniversary celebration. The Lawrenceville School is located at 2500 Main St. Lawrenceville School history teacher Len Miller will set the scene with a brief talk on renowned American landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, who laid out New York’s Central Park and, in partnership with Boston architects Peabody & Stearns, designed the School’s famous "Circle." Jacqueline Haun, the School’s Archivist, and Landscape Architect Elaine Mills will lead an approximately 90-minute tour of the campus, exploring the historic academic and residential buildings, as well as rare trees that remain from Olmsted’s "museum of botany and dendrology." "Translating Nature:" Recent Works by Joy Kreves. The Rider University Art Gallery will present "Translating Nature: Recent Works by Joy Kreves" Thursday, Sept. 30 through Saturday, Oct. 30. The opening reception will take place Thursday, Sept. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit features two and three-dimensional mixed-media work by Kreves, whose artistic influences range from Meret Oppenheim, Robert Rauschenberg and Wassily Kandinsky to contemporary architecture and traditional Chinese lattice designs. Some works integrate original handwritten poems by the artist, whose blog "Little Bang Theories" focuses on her life as an artist. Taste of Lawrenceville: "Our Bountiful Fields" is the theme of the fifth annual Taste of Lawrenceville, taking place from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Abbott Dining Center of the Lawrenceville School. The event, to benefit Lawrenceville Main Street (LMS), will offer a tasting of seasonal delicacies from Lawrenceville eateries and local farms as well as a tasting of wines from Renault Winery. Pipesounds: The Lawrenceville School’s historic Woods Family Organ will sing again at a free concert, open to the public, in the School’s Edith Memorial Chapel, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Performing will be renowned musician Joan Lippincott, professor emerita of Organ at Rider University’s Westminster Choir College and former Princeton University principal organist. She will play works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Aaron Copland, William Mathias, Olivier Messiaen, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Charles-Marie Widor. This concert will be given in celebration of the Lawrenceville’s School’s Bicentennial anniversary. The Woods Family Organ was restored this year by Orgues Letourneau Limitee.
