PLAINSBORO – A plainclothes police patrol project in August used statistical analysis of old reports to net numerous arrests.
Operation Blue C.R.U.S.H., for Crime Reduction Utilizing Statistical History, was an initiative borne out of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Summer Crime Trends report and an analysis of township crimes and quality of life issues. Police said the issues they targeted were trespassing complaints in apartment complexes and at the Meadows at Middlesex golf course, vandalism, noise complaints, disruptive teenagers and underage drinking in all other parts of the township.
Two teams of plainclothes officers took evenings in every weekend of August and patrolled the neighborhoods on foot, bicycles and unmarked cars. The teams made the following arrests: three for driving while intoxicated, one for a warrant, two for trespassing, one for underage possession of alcohol, and nine for underage consumption of alcohol. Two of those charged in the latter group were under the age of 18, police said.
The team made five arrests for controlled dangerous substances, and police said the substances included six tablets of methylin, a prescription legend drug, and three charges of possession of marijuana under 50 grams. The operation’s teams also made eight motor vehicle stops that netted 20 motor vehicle citations, issues 14 violations of local ordinances.
