2000 Mile Run from Boston to Austin via NJ – World Record Atrempt

By Abby Fleming
Friends Scott Jenkins (29), Rhys Jenkins (22) both from Great Britain and Rusty Tolliver (24) of Austin, Texas are to embark on an astonishing 2,000 mile run across the US to break a World Record and raise money for Salute America’s Heroes. This audacious charity endeavor is the equivalent of more than 75 marathons and will see the friends break the World Record for the most consecutive marathons. The idea for the run, from Boston to Austin, was sparked by their growing admiration for the bravery of their friends who are currently serving in the armed forces in Afghanistan. After deciding they wanted to do something to help their friends, who are risking their lives on a daily basis, they set about constructing the mammoth running challenge. Starting on September 15th 2010, the three friends will leave from the US Army Department in Boston, Massachusetts and continue on the remarkable 2,000 mile run, arriving at the US Army Reserve in Austin, Texas on November 27th 2010.
The challenge ahead for Scott, Rhys and Rusty is a grueling one and will see the friends push themselves to their physical limits. They will be completing up to 40 miles a day, 7 days a week, running through 9 states, 100 towns and 9 cities. The climate will be constantly changing, and the brothers will be tackling mountains and desert terrain along the way. Scott, Rhys and Rusty will need to consume between 7,000 and 10,000 calories a day just to ensure that they maintain peak physical condition and optimum energy levels over the run.
Scott Jenkins said: Salute America’s Heroes is a charity close to our hearts, so we cannot wait to begin our 2,000 mile run. To run 2,000 miles from Boston to Austin is going to be an incredible challenge for us, but it’s nothing compared to the challenges our servicemen and women are facing everyday.
Rusty Toliver said: I’m so pleased that we have been able to come together to support such a fantastic cause. Scott and Rhys have flown over here from the UK to undertake this challenging run and I’m delighted to show them the best that the USA has to offer.
