A Health and Wellness Fair will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 9 at Tom Bonanne’s Hillsborough Pool, Racquet and Fitness Club, on Amwell Road. This event is organized by the Somerset County Business Partnership, and will offer lectures, free use of the fitness club’s facilities, activities for children and flu shots from the Visiting Nurse Association. As many as 50 display areas are available for area business and organizations on a first-come basis. Display fees are $50 for non-profit organizations, $70 for SCBP members, and $100 for non-SCBP members. To reserve a display space, contact the SCBP online at http://events.scbp.org. The Heat Baseball Club, an organization for serious and competitive baseball players in its 12th year of travel baseball, currently seeks players from the Somerset County area for next spring and summer. The D.A.R.E. To Bowl League is looking for new members to join, bowling from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays at Ten Pin Lanes in Manville. The cost is $12 per week, which covers three games, an end-of-year banquet with cash prizes and a donation to the Hillsborough Police Department’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education program. The annual Twilight Golf Challenge for Spina Bifida will be held 11:30 a.m. Sept. 30th at Royce Brook Golf Club in Hillsborough. Proceeds from this event will support the Spina Bifida Resource Network’s (SBRN) efforts of providing direct nursing and social services coordination to children and families living with Spina Bifida, America’s most common, permanently disabling birth defect.

Teen Zone at the Hillsborough YMCA, sponsored by the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders and co-sponsored by the Hillsborough Youth Commission and the Hillsborough Family YMCA, will be open from 7 – 10 p.m. each Saturday night. The Hillsborough High School Robotics Team will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at the Hillsborough municipal building on South Branch Road, with seatings from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 3 Tickets cost $7; take-out is available. Proceeds will help support the team.
The Hillsborough High School Robotics team will also hold a clothing drive from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Hillsborough municipal building. Drop off donated wearable and usable clothing (men’s, women’s and children’s); shoes, belts, handbags, linens (including bedding, curtains and towels); stuffed animals; and hard toys (should fit a 24-by-24 inch box) in the Board of Education parking lot.
Somerset Medical Center’s second annual Steeplechase Distance Run will be held Oct. 3 at Auten Road Intermediate School. Fees range from $15 to $45, and participants are welcome to donate additional funds to the Steeplechase Cancer Center. Blawenburg Reformed Church is hosting a fall rummage sale Oct.14 to 16. The Hillsborough Health Department will give flu vaccinations in the multipurpose room at the Hillsborough municipal building from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 7 and Oct. 14, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21, and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 2. There will be a $20 charge to all participants (except those with Medicare coverage). The Woman’s Club of Hillsborough will hold a fashion show and basket auction Oct. 10 at B.P.O. Elks, 375 Union Ave., Bridgewater. Doors open at noon. Luncheon will be served. The Greater Somerset County Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer a Babysitter’s Training course, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at 14 W. Cliff St. in Somerville. The $65 course fee includes training materials, including the Babysitter’s Training Handbook, with information to use in class and on the job; an Emergency Reference Guide that provides step-by-step instructions to handle common emergencies; and a CD-ROM that includes tools such as a printable activity booklet with games, songs and recipes, a resume template and more. The Hillsborough Township Committee will meet in the municipal courtroom at the Hillsborough Municipal Township Municipal Complex at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12.
The Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 Auxiliary will meet at 8 p.m. Oct. 12 on the second floor of the firehouse on Route 206. The primary purpose of the auxiliary is to assist and support Hillsborough’s Volunteer Firemen and their families, and to raise funds for the fire company and charities. The auxiliary welcomes anyone interested in joining – potential members do not need to have a relative in the fire company to join. The Friends of the Hillsborough Library Annual Book Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Hillsborough municipal building in program rooms A and B. Hardcover and paperback books will be sold along with DVD’s and music CDs. Book genres will span adults, children, teens, fiction, nonfiction, cooking, history, arts and crafts, and more.
