Debra Johnson, Monmouth Junction
I think a debate among all the candidates is critical. I am grateful that the media publishes candidate statements that give the reader a feel for our positions. However, I think it is vitally important to hear us present our ideas and to directly address a variety of community issues.
A debate gives audience members a feel for how the debater would represent them.
In addition, during a debate, there is often an opportunity to address questions from the audience; we could not prepare in advance for every possible question so it would give the audience the ability to see how we respond in a situation in which we would have to think quickly.
My running mate and I welcome a debate, but the Republican candidates have already informed me they would prefer not to debate. In the past I have asked the incumbent mayor to debate and he has refused. By way of this letter, one more time, I am asking all the candidates running for mayor and council in South Brunswick this November to join Jean Dvorak and I in a debate. Feel free to contact me at [email protected].
