The Allentown High girls cross country team ran against Trenton and Princeton at Mercer County Park on Tuesday, Sept. 21. The Redbirds lost to Princeton, 20-42, and topped Trenton, 15-47. Allentown’s Caroline Ticse won the race in 19:53. She was followed by Bridgette Meloro in eight and Heather Murphy in 10th to round of the top three for the Redbirds.
On Saturday, Sept. 25, the girls traveled to Six Flags Great Adventure for the Safari Invatational. The varsity team lead by Ticse, who finished fifth as an individual in the Varsity B Division and placed eighth in the overall competition. Murphy was 19th, Katie Smith 74th, Danielle Rivas 75th, and Meloro finished 85th.
In the JV Division B race, freshman Chelsea Piell was fifth as an individual and led the team to a third place finish.
Earlier this season the girls competed in the Thompson Park Class meet at Thompson Park in Monroe. The senior girls placed fourth with Ticse taking second place. Meloro was 21st, Smith was 35th, and Brittani Ferriola was 37th.
In the junior girls race, the team placed 11th with Rivas leading the team in 20th place. The sophomore girls captured eighth place a Heather Murphy took the top spot for Allentown in eighth place.
Eight girls won medals in the competition.
