UF plans roadwork

UPPER FREEHOLD – The Township Committee has introduced an ordinance that, if approved, would authorize issuing up to $1.08 million in bonds to help finance $1.2 million in repairs to Sharon Station and Chambers roads.
The Sharon Station Road project calls for the total reconstruction of the roadway in two phases, according to Township Administrator and CFO Dianne Kelly,
The first phase, for which the township has already been awarded a $160,000 state grant, would involve the section of Sharon Station Road from Route 526 to Hluchy Road. The second phase of the project, about 4,000 linear feet, would be from Hluchy Road to Herbert Road, Ms. Kelly said.
The township has applied for a second state grant to help pay for phase II of the Sharon Station Road roadwork.
The Chambers Road project is a simple 1,500 feet of overlay and leveling of the existing road, not a total reconstruction, Ms. Kelly said.
The vote was 4-0 to introduce the ordinance, with Mayor Stanley Moslowski Jr. abstaining. The ordinance is scheduled for a public hearing and adoption vote Thursday.

AHS climbs rankings
ALLENTOWN – The Upper Freehold Regional School District has reported that New Jersey Monthly Magazine has ranked Allentown High School sixth among Monmouth County schools, and 82nd among the 322 New Jersey high schools, rising eight places in the ranking since the high school ranking edition in 2008.
"Given a focus on academic achievement, the use of technology in instruction and an emphasis on reading and writing across all disciplines, it is anticipated that Allentown High School will continue to reflect improvements made in the school the evidence of which would be the advancement in the rankings," said Principal Christopher Nagy in a press release. "This is a proud moment for our students, staff and community."
