A single-family home on Taylor Avenue was declared uninhabitable after a fire Sept. 20 damaged the structure, Hillsborough police said.
The Hillsborough Township Police Department and the Hillsborough Township Fire Safety Bureau are still investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.
A call about the structure fire came at 9:12 a.m., according to police. Once at the scene, police observed heavy smoke billowing from the residence, which was occupied by four family members who were sleeping when the fire broke out. A neighbor who observed the smoke alerted them to the blaze, and they were able to escape from the building unharmed.
Hillsborough Township Fire Companies 36, 37, 38, and fire companies from Neshanic, Somerville, Manville, Montgomery, and Bridgewater responded to extinguish the fire. The Hillsborough Rescue Squad, Social Services, Building Department, Somerset Medical Center Paramedics, Somerville Rescue Squad, and Red Cross also responded.
