Two men, including one from South Brunswick, were charged Wednesday with committing several burglaries along the Route 27 corridor earlier this month.
Milton Guarderas, 21, of Shadow Oaks Court in Monmouth Junction, and Stephen Rodriguez, 21, of Pine Street in New Brunswick, were charged with three counts of burglary and theft by south Brunswick police and two counts by police in Princeton Township.
The men were charged in connection with three Kingston burglaries on Sept. 9 and two Princeton burglaries on Sept. 7.
According to police, the pair stole a camera, a laptop and jewelry from three houses on Shuh and Fairfield roads in Kingston. They . Items reported stolen were a camera, a laptop and jewelry. South Brunswick police spokesman Sgt. James Ryan said Mr. Guarderas had been charged in May in connection with burglaries in Brunswick Acres. Sgt. Ryan said the pair believed they were in Princeton, not Kingston, at the time of the most recent burglaries.
"The investigation found that, when they went to do these burglaries, they specifically wanted to stay out of South Brunswick because they had been caught by us before," Sgt. Ryan said.
Mr. Guardenas is in the Somerset County Jail on $30,000 bail and Mr. Rodriguez was released pending his first court appearance, said Sgt. Ryan.
Princeton Township Detective Ben Gering said residents should try to keep valuables out of site whenever they are not home.
"Safety deposit boxes are obviously better," he said. "You can lock it. But if you have valuables or other sentimental items, putting them in a jewelry box in the mater bedroom is not the best idea. Putting them in another room and out of sight is best."
