An important section of the planned greenway “loop trail” around Princeton will be inaugurated on Sunday at 4 p.m., at the recently completed elegant pedestrian bridge over Stony Brook.
This bridge spans the Stony Brook in a natural setting, at about half way along the most beautiful new section of trail along the river leading from Greenway Meadows Park (parking lot close to the soccer fields) to the Washington Oaks development entrance (small parking area at Route 206). The bridge is next to the Hun School playing fields. Access was kindly permitted by the school specifically for the handicapped (from the lower parking lot close to the fields).
All of Princeton is invited to participate in the inauguration. Everybody is invited to come along to the bridge on an expertly guided walk (or bike ride) from Greenway Meadows at 3 p.m. on Sunday or on a more modest guided walk to the bridge at 3:15 p.m. from Washington Oaks. The latter one will follow the elegant and easily walkable switchbacks (suitable for families with children or older walkers) with their view-points down to the river. At the Hun School parking lot, a golf cart will be kindly provided for handicapped participants.
The trail section from Greenway Meadows to the bridge is a “nature trail,” for people who like to hike in nature. The very good design of the bridge and its pleasant approach was honored by the American Society of Civil Engineers with the Quality of Life Award 2009-2010 for Princeton Township Engineer Bob Kiser and his team.
In the opinion of this writer, this new trail may be the most beautiful one in all of Princeton in all seasons. Come and enjoy specifically the view from the bridge along Stony Brook in its unspoiled natural setting.
