Scarecrows contest returns to festival

By: centraljersey.com
Lawrenceville Main Street presents its annual Scarecrows in the Village harvest festival and contest on Sunday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lawrenceville Farmers’ Market on Gordon Avenue.
Enjoy delicious treats from favorite Farmers’ Market vendors, paint a pumpkin and listen to live music with family and neighbors.
Budding artists are invited to bring the funniest, scariest or silliest scarecrow that they can. Or build one at the festival, straw and supplies will be provided, but make sure to bring items that will make your scarecrow stand out above the rest (clothes, hats, costume jewelry, etc.). You can make your scarecrow by yourself or gather up some friends and do it together.
Aspiring writers are invited to submit an essay using 100 words or less to tell what they like best about autumn or write a story imagining a fun fall adventure. Essay and story entries are due on Monday, Oct. 11 and should be submitted to [email protected].
Winners of both contests will be announced during the event and you do not need to be present to win. The essays of the first-place winners and photos of first-, second- and third-place scarecrows will be printed in The Lawrence Ledger.
Volunteers are needed during the event. Contact us with questions or to volunteer at [email protected]. Rain date is Sunday, Oct. 24. Call 219-9300 by 9 a.m. on Sunday for an inclement weather update.
Special thanks to Noto Insurance, Allstate, Dr. David Kim DDS, and Lawrenceville Main Street.
