This coming Friday, October 15 at 8 pm, the Rutgers University Center for Latino Arts and Culture will present "Farewell Ayacucho" (Adios Ayacucho) a play by the award winning Peruvian theatre group Yuyachkani.
The play will be performed in College Hall on the Livingston Campus Center, located at 84 Joyce Kilmer Avenue, Piscataway, NJ 08854. The event is free and open to the public.
The play was adapted by Yuyachkani director Miguel Rubio from the short story by Peruvian writer Julio Ortega that tells the story of Alfonso Cánepa, a farm worker leader from the Southern Peruvian Andes, disappeared and killed during the 80’s, who returns from the other world and begins a journey to Lima, the capital city, looking for his bones so that he can rest in peace.
Featuring actor Augusto Casafranca with music by Ana Correa, the program will also include a screening of the short documentary film "Alma Viva" about Yuyachkani’s award winning work with the Peruvian Truth and Reconciliation Commission and a post play discussion with the artists and Rutgers faculty.
As part of this program, Yuyachani member Debora Correa will conduct a workshop with Rutgers student health advocates on Friday, October 15 from 9 am- 1pm.
