Christopher Grant, 20, was charged with various drug offenses on Sept. 27.
Officers were initially called to Mr. Grant’s home around 7:30 p.m. following a complaint of animal abuse and neglect. While investigating police said they saw several marijuana items and drug paraphernalia in plain view. The items were located in Mr. Grant’s bedroom and consisted of a large quantity of marijuana, packaging materials, digital scales and a smoking device.
Mr. Grant became uncooperative and attempted to shove an officer out of the front door of his residence, slamming the officer’s hand in the metal door in the process. Mr. Grant retreated to his bedroom and began flushing marijuana down a toilet. The officer forcibly entered both the bedroom and bathroom and took Mr. Grant into custody after a brief struggle.
All of the marijuana and drug paraphernalia was then seized as evidence. Mr. Grant was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and obstructing the administration of the law. Mr. Grant is being held at the Burlington County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The officer suffered a minor injury to his right hand and was treated and released at a local hospital.
Stacey Delaversano, 41, of Trenton, was charged with shoplifting from the ShopRite supermarket on Oct. 2 around 7:30 p.m.
Investigation revealed that Ms. Delaversano was observed by ShopRite’s loss prevention staff hiding store items in her purse and coat and then exiting the store without paying.
Officers located around $100 of merchandise in Ms. Delaversano’s possession including cold medicines, shampoo and razors. She was charged with shoplifting and released pending a court date.
Florence
John L. Blackburn was found sleeping in his car on the shoulder of Tilton Lane.
Following contact with Mr. Blackburn police discovered he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for a traffic summons from Moorestown Municipal Court.
Mr. Blackburn was taken into custody and issued a local ordinance for sleeping in his car. He was released for the outstanding warrant pending a court date. ***
On Sept. 25 a home was burglarized on two separate occasions. Each time prescription medication and cash was stolen.
Police conducted an investigation and identified Eric Swiderski and Mary Larr as the suspects.
Mr. Swiderski was taken into custody at his home with the assistance of the Burlington Township Police Department. Ms. Larr was taken into custody early Sept. 26 at the Florence Township police headquarters. Both were processed and sent to Burlington County Jail.
Ernest Whitcraft, 20, of Tabernacle, was stopped by police after allegedly running a red light on Sept. 29. Police said that Mr. Whitcraft was driving with a suspended license and had an outstanding warrant from Mt. Holly for failing to appear with $500 bail.
An 8-inch hunting knife was retrieved from the driver’s seat area of his car and Mr. Whitcraft was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. Bail was set at $500.
Mr. Whitcraft was taken into custody in lieu of $1,000 bail.
Tracy Jones, 45, was charged with shoplifting on Oct. 3.
Police were called to Wawa on Route 130 following a shoplifting incident that had just occurred. Mr. Jones was located in the area of the Valero station and was found to match the description of the suspected shoplifter.
Mr. Jones was processed and released pending a court date.
Edward A. Costigan was charged with possession of prescription medication and marijuana, forgery, possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia on Oct. 4, around 7 p.m..
Police were dispatched to Boyd’s Pharmacy on Broad Street for a report of the suspect attempting to fill a fraudulent prescription. Upon arrival police observed Mr. Costigan inside the pharmacy. After further investigation police said that Mr. Costigan was in possession of prescription medication that was not his, what police suspected was marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia used for both packing and inhaling.
Mr. Costigan was processed and transported to Burlington County Jail in default of bail.
Michael Bal was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and wrong way on a one way street on Oct. 5, around 3 a.m.
Police observed Mr. Bal driving his car the wrong way on Eighth Avenue. After the officer conducted a stop he performed sobriety tests on Mr. Bal and determined that he was driving under the influence.
Mr. Bal was processed and released pending his court date.
Police were dispatched to a car accident involving a motorcycle on Oct. 2. Upon arrival police were given a description of the driver and the motorcycle by the witness.
Police conducted a neighborhood canvas and located the motorcycle in the Railroad Avenue parking lot across the street from Dr. Lou’s Bar. While officers were with the motorcycle they discovered it was stolen. Some patrons of the bar advised officers that the driver was inside the bar in the bathroom.
Officers went inside and located the driver, identified as Lance Boone. The police said an accident witness positively identified Mr. Boone as the driver. Mr. Boone was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital.
Upon release he was charged with receiving or possessing stolen property, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, reckless driving, driving while suspended, unlicensed driver and driving under the influence. Mr. Boone was processed and transported to Burlington County Jail in default of $20,000 bail.
Mansfield
Willie McGhee Jr. of Burlington was stopped by police on Hedding Road near Route 206 on Oct. 2.
Further investigation revealed that Mr. McGhee had consumed alcoholic beverages prior to driving. Mr. McGhee failed an number of field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
Mr. McGhee was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a vehicle, reckless driving, failure to maintain in a lane and improper maintenance of lamps.
Timothy Trought of Columbus was stopped by police after they received a report from another agency that Mr. Trought was allegedly intoxicated.
Investigation revealed that Mr. Trought had consumed alcoholic beverages prior to driving. Mr. Trought failed a number of field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
Mr. Trought was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
