HILLSBOROUGH – The Hillsborough Health Department has set several dates for flu vaccinations for Hillsborough and Millstone Borough residents, ages 18 years and older.
There will be a $20 charge to all participants unless a Medicare card is presented. Those on Medicare will not be charged.
The vaccinations will be administered at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) and Oct. 14,1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 21, and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 2, in the multipurpose room of the Hillsborough municipal building.
The seasonal flu vaccine this year will include protection against the H1N1 flu, as well as two other influenza strains which are believed to be the most likely strains to cause illness this year. If you already received an H1N1 vaccine, you should still get the seasonal 2010-2011 vaccine.
Although the CDC recommends that children and pregnant women get the seasonal flu vaccination, liability costs, as well as the need for physician oversight of these patients, prohibits the local health department from giving vaccine to these individuals. See the CDC website for more information on influenza and the influenza vaccination (www.cdc.gov/flu/ and www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis/downloads/vis-flu.pdf).
If you are allergic to eggs, thimerosal (used as a preservative in the vaccine and found in some contact lens solutions), or if you have a fever, you may be excluded from receiving the vaccine.
There is no pre-registration required. Clinics will be held as long as vaccine is received. Please check the website at www.hillsborough-nj.org for cancellations.
Call the Health Department at 908-369-5652 for any questions about the clinics.
