The Somerset County Business Partnership, Hillsborough Township, and the Hillsborough Pool, Racquet & Fitness Club will sponsor the Somerset County Community Health at Wellness Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The fair will take place at the Hillsborough Pool, Racquet & Fitness Club, 345 Amwell Road. The event is open to the public at no fee.
The fair will feature lectures on weight management, healthy lifestyles, nutrition, and controlling diabetes. Representatives from health-related businesses and area medical practices will be available and demonstrations of racquetball, yoga, pilates, aerobics, dance, karate, swimmer-cise, and other healthy activities will be demonstrated throughout the morning. Flu shots will be available through the Community Visiting Nurse Association.
The schedule for the day features:
Presentations
9 a.m.: Dr. Christine Berju, Family Chiropractic, Nutrition
10 a.m.: Dr. Eric Waldorf, Author of "Yes! Chiropractic Can Help You"
11 a.m.: Dr. Jeff Levine on weight loss, winner on NBC-TV’s "Biggest Loser" program
Noon: Stacey Pilato, Esq., on wills, trusts and elder planning.
Aerobic exercise
9:30 a.m.: water aerobics;
10:30 a.m.: Yoga;
11:30 a.m.: Pilates;
Noon: Racquet ball radar gun test how fast you hit a racquet ball.
Martial arts
8 a.m. – 10 a.m.: Aikido;
10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: Adult/teen Karate;
11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Junior Karate.
Dance
9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.: Nursery dance for ages 3-4;
10:20 a.m. – 11:05 a.m.: Pre-ballet and tap for ages 4-6;
10:20 a.m. – 11:05 a.m.: Lyrical beginners, intermediate for ages 8-12;
11:10 a.m. – 11:55 a.m.: Hip hop beginners for ages 6-9.
In addition the Community Visiting Nurse Association will be offering flu shots from 9 a.m. to noon; $25 (free to individuals on Medicare Part B).
"Public health is a growing concern in our society today," Pete Wright, director of Local Government Services for the Business Partnership, said. "While childhood obesity is getting a lot of attention, a healthy lifestyles among adults is an equally critical issue. The Health Fair will be an opportunity to discover simple methods of setting and reaching healthy goals."
