South Brunswick welcomed another new business into the township with Tuesday’s grand opening of United Silicone Carbide Inc., which moved its headquarters from New Brunswick to Monmouth Junction.
USCI is one of the first developers of silicon carbide power devices and is a spin-off from Rutgers University.
”As we continue to achieve success in the clean energy market, we are proud to have developed and grown our operations right here in New Jersey,” Chris Dries, USCI president and chief executive officer, said in a press release. “Our new facility provides us with the space we need to manufacture SiC devices much more efficiently, increase our throughput in production and create more jobs in the state.”
USCI, a developer and manufacturer of silicone carbide based power transistors and devices, has grown from five to 10 employees over the last year and hopes the new 6,000-square-foot facility will help continue its expansion, according to the release.
USCI was also recently awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovative Research contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to support the development of circuits and subsystems that will enable more sophisticated natural gas and oil exploration.
South Brunswick officials said the company is a perfect fit for the Route 1 corridor and the mission to bring hi-tech companies into the area known as Einstein’s Alley.
”This is a small company that has the potential to grow into an important company in the field of transistor energy,” said Mayor Frank Gambatese.
